The Plot synopsis on this isn't very good, it's not a typical love story. It's very interesting how misinterpretations can have such great ramifications.

Based on sarat chandra's classic novel, it is well adapted though with minor changes...vidya shines brilliantly in her first film and saif also surprises with a great look and performances.

Wonderful direction, superb acting, and an amazing recreation of early modern India. The songs are absolutely beautiful and finally for once depicted honestly and with great integrity in the movie. I have to say this is a jewel of indian cinema.
