MacLaine's haircut is an inspiration. I like the end.

When this film was made, the subject matter would have been a lot more controversial, but even in this modern day and age it still packed a punch. The ending was quite shocking. The only thing that let it down was the rubbish acting from the actress that played that spoilt little madam Mary. All in all, though, I enjoyed it!

I honestly don't know why this play is not taught and this film shown more in high schools and generic college classrooms. Well-acted! If you do not know this story, you really MUST see this adaptation that Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine shine in.

This movie is definately a "melodrama"...but it's done very well....A spoiled child starts a ugly vicious lie about her teachers @ a boarding school being lovers & this child blackmails another student into backing up her story...needless to say it ruins the school & the teachers reputations...eventually the children admit they lied...but the damage is already done & leads the one teacher Martha played by MacLaine to admit she has "lesbien feelings" & leads her to hang herself...a very sad story but well done
