I spent half the movie not liking it but then it took a turn for interesting. I just can't help wondering what happened to Hollywood's ability to produce great endings, maybe they started listening to people?

I find Montgomery Clift to be the most mesmerizing actor of his generation. I am riveted by him. And with such incredible source material and a legendary leading lady, this film is classic Hollywood entertainment with heartfelt depth.

Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor, and Shelley Winters are fantasitic. The story and performances are flawless. This film is a much see.

Greek tragedy, or as close as an American story ever got. Pretty good condensation of the endless Dreiser book. All details are perfect: Clift, Shelley Winters, the great shots by George Stevens, the haunting score by Franz Waxman, and Elizabeth Taylor, luminous and complex performance.
