Young Mr. Lincoln (1939)

In this dramatized account of his early law career in Illinois, Abraham Lincoln is born into a modest log cabin, where he is encouraged by his first love, Ann Rutledge, to pursue law. Following her tragic death, Lincoln establishes a law practice in Springfield, where he meets a young Mary Todd. Lincoln's law skills are put to the test when he takes on the difficult task of defending two brothers who have been accused of murder.

Henry Fonda is amazing. But at times this movie is entertaining for the wrong reasons.

A subtle masterpiece from Ford. Henry Fonda was fantastic as Lincoln and the supporting cast fabulous also. The ending was poetic genius, having Lincoln walk out of the film and into history.

Just one of three movies John Ford directed in 1939. Henry Fonda makes a great Abe Lincoln. There are a lot of funny moments in this movie, of course it has a serious side as well and makes you want to know who Lincoln really was.

I don't know how much of this is fact, i doubt most of it, but that doesn't mean i didn't enjoy it. It's about the essence of what we think lincoln was like, and Fonda does an excellent job of capturing it.
