... the constant cutting back and forth for two hours grows tiresome, and there's nothing in the script to match the wonder of what's on-screen.

He’s not really reinventing or subverting a genre. Rather, Haynes is applying the same smarts and curiosity he always does, openly questioning why a kids’ film can’t be as absorbing and thoughtful as any other kind.

Everything about this film is a disappointment. It is, by far, Todd Haynes's weakest effort to date.

As an innovative filmmaker who naturally chimes with the perspective of the outsider looking in, Haynes takes a semi-graphic novel which comes with a strong visual identity, and makes it very much his own.

Absolutely gorgeous film in every way. The first half does an amazing job conveying what it must feel like to live in this world without hearing. By the second half I was so taken by the characters and how the story all intertwined that I must say I was "wonderstruck". This movie was extremely moving and emotional for me and demonstrated some of the most important things that make this life so unique and special. Sad, but the average moviegoer will probably not be willing to sit through especially the first half of this film...but, they are missing out on something very unique and special and beautiful.
