It's more of a character study, insightful and nuanced, about a man grappling with a profound sense of inadequacy, questioning himself. In many ways, We Have a Pope recalls last year's Oscar winner, "The King's Speech": Someone who doesn't feel up to the job fate has handed him, and then struggling to come to terms with it.

It's a shame that a movie about the pope as a man shows such scant fascination with the actual papacy - or with humanity, for that matter.

Poking gentle fun at the Pope, the curia and the godless in what I thought was a wonderful movie. My wife didn't like it, but she is not as knowledgeable about Catholicism as I am.

WE HAVE A POPE is an extraordinary film about the humanity of 108 people (Cardinals) who control 1 billion other people (the Believers) around the world. At the surface it looks innocent but if you look very close, you will see the manipulation the Institution of Church utilizes to look RIGHT to its flock. Many small nuances about the lives of the cardinals are interesting to watch and the comic aspect is just right to make a remarkable point: the Catholic religion, is all about MAKE BELIVE, it is grand theater with scripts to follow, costumes, sets and sound for people to enjoy, hope and behave. I loved this elegant film.
