After defeating France and imprisoning Napoleon on Elba, ending two decades of war, Europe is shocked to find Napoleon has escaped and has caused the French Army to defect from the King back to him. The best of the British generals, the Duke of Wellington, beat Napolean's best generals in Spain and Portugal, but now must beat Napoleon himself with an Anglo Allied army.

Bondarchuk is so overwhelmed by the thousands of Russian cavalry troops he's been given to play with, and by his $25 million budget, and by-his obsession for aerial photography, that his leading characters turn out scarcely more human than his extras.

Only two films in history tells about the battle of Waterloo, and is the best historical film to learn exactly what happens, a film that delivers what people want to see about the man who would never be.

everyone knows that this battle is one of the greatest battles that have ever been and this movie portrayes it brilliantly the acting was great i this movie cant fault it and i thought the choice of people to play the main roles was excellent and it shown in depth at the mistake the french made that made them lose the battle, not to mention it showed the british army in all its glory

Very Tolstoyan in its vision! An amazing film which has been a big part of my life. My Dad did a History degree and used to educate us with such films. My brothers and I have a habit of quoting it.

One for those interested in period films. Realistic and at times gruesome reminder of the cost of conflict. Action period film my dad took me to see when little so will always be special
