what a charming film we have here. how the masses don't enjoy a film like this is a mystery. i suppose the comedy is too subtle?

Concentrating on the fine-tuned trivia that fuels so much television comedy, it also creates two bright, appealing heroines and watches them face life's little insults with fresh, disarming humor.

Nothing much really happens in this film. It's so far removed from all these action movies which have such a distinct plot. This movie is more "slice of life" ish. It's about 2 best friends, Laura and Amelia. From the opening shot of them as children, we know this is a lifelong friendship. The film follows them going through a tumultuous time in their friendship, as their lives and relationship are somewhat disrupted by Laura's engagement to Frank. Like I said, not a lot really happens in this movie. But it's so wonderful. Watching it just gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

Some very funny and poignant moments. See the Mole exchange scene. Appreciated the unconventional characters and relationships, however it had this low energy-apathetic quality which I found tiresome after a while. But it's a first feature by Holofcener and her later flick, Friends with Money proves her prowess as a writer and director.
