Great movie and Billy Bragg on the soundtrack.

I can sorta see how this could be a cult classic--but at this time it doesn't seem to have aged well. Catherine Keener is wonderful and neurotic, and Anne Heche is...alright. I liked Liev Schreiber as the goofy Andrew. The plot is predictable--as far as the relationship between the two female leads go. I liked the alternating, crazed nature of Amelia's (Catherine Keener) romantic attractions. The story is pleasant enough, though not ground-breaking. Not a memorable film, but not a horrible one, neither.

A very pleasant film, the characters are beautifully developed and genuine. Catherine Keener and Anne Heche do a fine job in their roles and the supporting cast is excellent as well. Very good screenplay, detailed and perceptive direction. Moving, touching and funny.

There comes a point, especially when you hit your 30s where friendships start to change when life pulls you into different directions, making you reprioritize certain things. This is essentially what happens with Laura and Amelia, childhood friends who grew up together, but are in totally different stages of life. Laura is in a stable relationship, becomes engaged, and is ready to embark on her career as a therapist, while Amelia is single, works her job at a newspaper, and is still trying to figure out how to be a grownup. It's Amelia who feels left out from all the major happenings of Laura's life and starts to worry about how all this change will effect the friendship.

I really liked this movie. I mean, you can tell it's a mid-90's movie, but it's cute. Love the director, love Catherine Keener, and Anne Heche is tolerable in this. It's a cute story, because I can see a little of myself in Keener's character. Liev Schreiber does well, too, as the kinda guy that I'm sure so many girls have or want to have in their lives.
