Wah-wah was only so-so, there wasn't anything really amazing with acting (acpet maybe Emily Watson and Nicholas Hoult) and directing, except for few decent shots from the African landscape. This was a pretty bland family drama, with a very predictable ending.

The film is so well acted -- by Byrne, who makes Harry's internalized agonies and continuously carried torch for his ex-wife touching, and by Watson and Hoult -- that its more cloying moments, including a staged version of the musical "Camelot" (which is too long), are a moot point.

Fantastic cast, let down by a poorly paced script. Clearly very autobiographical for Richard E. Grant, and therefore very personal, so it seemed like exluding certain events or dramatising some things for to create a better narrative would have been too difficult. It's a shame; it would have served the movie better. But it's his baby, and his story, so it can be forgiven.

A slow burner of a movie - but obviously done with love.

Autobiographical, a look at a time now lost in Africa and the fragile nature of relationships
