I completely understand why this was released at the end of Bush, Jr's reign. They didn't want everyone to see that he was actually that dumb in real life, too, and that he always was. I liked this movie because it depicts the ex-prez as a real person rather than just "The President." It did make me feel bad for him, but then I remember that he was, in fact, our president, and then I just get mad again. Poor guy....

"W" enthralled me because I failed to realize just how human George Bush really is and the struggles he faced in his life. It's a great movie even though Brolin doesn't look like much him, but he does sound like him.

Richard Dreyfuss, hunching over and baring his teeth like a shark cruising off a Martha's Vineyard beach, does a wicked impersonation of Cheney. His relish for the part suggests that the movie should have been done not as an earnest bio-pic but as a satirical comedy -- as a contemporary "Dr. Strangelove," with a cast of satyrs and clowns.

This is a familiar and facile take on the president, attributing the Iraq war to his oedipal problems with H.W. and treating him alternately as an object of fun or pity.
