Tunes of Glory (1960)

Following World War II in peacetime Scotland, brigade headquarters replaces commanding officer Major Jock Sinclair, a boisterous battalion leader, with the strict, temperamental Lieutenant Colonel Basil Barrow. Resentful toward his replacement, Sinclair undermines Barrow's authority and damages his successor's reputation among the soldiers. Barrow faces an uphill battle in regaining the discipline and respect of his battalion.

My god, a more raw film you will never see. Arguably Britains two finest actors ever give their finest performances of their careers. Furthermore a shocking twist which is sure to wrench the heart of any person who views it. An utterly realistic portrayal of officers and professional soldiers, a film not given to cliches or wooden acting at all. truley superb

A battle for leadership of a Scottish battalion after World War II, Alec Guinness and John Mills played the main roles in this very surprising film.

One of Sir Alex's best in the very absolute. You probably don't realize how brilliant the man was until you see him in a movie with a rather simple plot such as this one.

Quite a brilliant film, not what I was expecting at all in terms of story line. Stunning performances from Alec Guiness and John Mills. A very dark and mesmorising story and a study of great acting if ever there was one!

Little known yet brilliant film and highly recommended. Not a fast paced action thriller but a classic study in human relations (especially within a peacetime military setting). The acting, especially Guiness and Mills is first rate - I would say amongst their finest.
