The surprise behind Town and Country isn't that the director started filming without a finished script, but that he ever thought he had the start of one.

** (out of four) The perils of the filthy rich! It's too bad this film is such a disappointment given the fine cast that includes Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn, Garry Shandling, and Josh Hartnett. A 5th Avenue couple jets off to Paris to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. When they return the lives get complicated when they find out that their best friends are having having an affair on each other. Not nearly as fun or engorssing as you'd expect from this cast.

I think "disaster" would be the best word to describe this flick. I still don't get what I was supposed to like about it. What exactly were they going for here? Just a bunch of over-acted parts without much of a plot.

The script's tone veers chaotically -- and ambitiously -- at once aiming for a Noel Coward kind of elegant sparring, then for the lightly raunchy, rompy absurdism of "What's New, Pussycat?"
