Tokyo Gore Police (2008)

In a futuristic Tokyo where police have been privatized and bitter self-mutilation is so casual that advertising is often specially geared to the 'cutter' demographic, Ruka is on a mission to avenge her father's assassination. Ruka is a cop from a squad whose goal is to destroy homicidal mutant humans known as 'engineers', that possess the ability to transform any injury to a weapon in and of itself.

Jesus H. Christ. I have absolutely no idea what to say about this movie except that Yoshihiro Nishimura must be one fucked up individual for making a movie like this but, even more so, I must be one fucked up individual to have had so much fun with it. It is absolutely ridiculous and most of the time it's just a flimsy plot holding together scenes of extreme, comic-like violence. They must use 10 gallons of fake blood in the first five minutes. The special effects really aren't even anything special. But the movie is so entertaining that you forgive it all it's faults...you know...if you're into that sort of thing. Do you find the concept of a man pretty much swallowing a running chainsaw and then spraying blood for a solid minute funny? No? Then this isn't the movie for you. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy. I've been trying to think of other films to compare it to like 'The Machine Girl', 'Ichi the Killer' or 'Battle Royale' but there just isn't anything like it. Oh and check out that one-sheet. That thing is bad ass.

Another great one in the vein of Machine Girl and Meatball Machine. Some very funny and (of course) very gory moments make this one I'll be returning to again and again. The only criticism is that it's not as good as Meatball Machine and Machine Girl, but heck, what is? Next time one of your friends says Japanese horror is all long haired ghosts, show him this... and then cut him in half, the opinionated prick.

When it comes to Body Horror Cronenberg's got nothing over Yoshihiro Nishimura!

Oh, sweet gory mayhem! As expected, Tokyo Gore Police is absolute bloody insanity of the degree only Japan can provide. Does the story make sense? Of course not! But that's not important - what is, is the completely insane ways the makers of this film found to mutilate its characters. If you're a fan of flicks like Battle Royale and Machine Girl, Tokyo Gore Police will send you straight to heaven. A nightmarish heaven where mutants with weapons built into their bodies are battled by the most terrifying, mentally unstable police force ever formed ... but heaven, nonetheless. In all seriousness, though: see this movie, immediately.

A very silly film with some very gross effects and over the top action, I didn't know what to expect from this when I first saw it and I was completely hooked and loving it - despite the plot being all over the place. Not the greatest film ever made but if you turn your sense of belief off and just enjoy the madness going on then you'll have fun with this. Definately a film for after the pub!
