Bunuel does neo-realism, with daring surreal touches (the kid's dream scene is one of Bunuel's ultimate triumphs). stays with you long after it's over

una película cruda, violenta y realista. un film que retrata a la perfección la marginal vida que se lleva en una ciudad plagada de pobreza e ignorancia.

â??MÃ©xico, ParÃs, Londres, Nueva York: semillero de futuros delincuentes [...] Esta pelÃcula, basada en hechos de la vida real, no es optimista, y deja la soluciÃ³n del problema en las fuerzas progresivas de la ciudadâ??. AsÃ comienza la mejor pelÃcula del cine mexicano, esa que narra sin exageraciÃ³n la historia de un grupo de delincuentes juveniles, desde la sinceridad mÃ¡s dura de la que puede ser capaz el cine cuando retrata la realidad. No hay escenas de transiciÃ³n, cada plano arremete contra la comodina postura indiferente de aquel que en lugar de mirar la luna, se concentra en el dedo que la seÃ±ala. La ciudad que devora el destino de sus habitantes pero sobre todo, la fatalidad de la pobreza que deja en claro que la desigual sociedad de clases es la mayor corruptora de la inocencia.

A Mexican movie directed by the Spaniard Luis Bunuel. It centers on the slums of Mexico City. This movie has themes that are international which makes this movie so remarkable. The director has done a good job in portraying Mexican society in the 1950s despite the controversy which made the Mexican government to ban the movie.
