The Winter Guest is a pleasure to watch, if only (but not only) for the chance to see Thompson. She is a continually revealing artist.

this really is an exquisite little film. it's just one day in the bleak midwinter in a small town by the sea in scotland, where four different couples try to find some tenderness and love. an old woman and her grown-up daughter, the daughter's son and a girl, two 13-year old boys and finally two old ladies on their way to a funeral. it's sad, affectionate and moving.

Mmmkay...I think that about covers all the new movies I've seen since I updated last. I would like to add that [i]American History X[/i] is phenomenal. It pissed me off so badly at the beginning...I seriously wanted to break something. I can't remember ever getting that angry about any form of fiction before. But the resolution tore me apart, of course. Damn...what a movie. Good Night and Good Luck comes out Tuesday! I'll be renting it very soon.
