Cleverly constructed and superbly directed, this stirring film is based upon true events concerning an Arab chieftan and President Theodore Roosevelt during the early 1900's. With the charismatic Connery donning the role of 'Allah's instrument', this '70's adventure tale carries with it the power and excitement of a modern action epic as well as the characteristic charm of any classic film - all accompanied by a rousing musical score.

An elaborate, expensive‐looking, ludicrously jingoistic historical‐adventure that comes out so firmly in favor of Teddy Roosevelt's “Big Stick” policy, 70 years later, that it could also be a put‐on.

Not quite on par with Connery's other adventure movie of the mid-70's (The Man Who Would Be King), but still great. As with The Man Who Would Be King, the cinematography in this movie is fantastic.

John Milius' masterpiece, one of the greatest adventure movies ever! Wonderful actors, beautiful landscapes and a staggering script, sparkling with humor and political wit: A high praise of human irresponsibility, cheerfully entertaining, but not to be emulated in real life!
