Maybe it was because I was expecting a bad movie, but I thought The Spirit was hilarious. I hope people viewing it know it's supposed to be funny. Gabriel Macht's performance is reminiscent of Bruce Campbell and Samuel Jackson is throwing punches and hamming it up for laughs. If you enjoy Sam Raimi flicks (E.g. Army of Darkness), and like the visual stylings of Frank Miller comics, you'll enjoy The Spirit.

Good movie! Don't expect a serious super hero movie. It's silly and fun. Very well done.

Watching this film I can see why so many people don't like it. It's a comic book. No, I mean it's literally a comic book. It's written exactly like a comic book, the style is very much that of a comic book, and it's written by a comic book writer. Hence, a comic book. It's sleek, stylish, campy, awesome, science-fiction-y, action-y, and visually stunning. I'm sorry that the film gets less credit than it deserves. If it had been an actual graphic novel, it might have won an award or two, but as a movie the only award it'll probably get is a razzie. It's sad, too, as I liked the Comic/film style. I would like to see more films like this.

Far more entertaining than the vapid "Sin City" or the one-note "300," "The Spirit" is this year's subversive masterpiece, a well-executed bit of political noir masquerading as a superhero movie. The Spirit is a thinly-veiled caricature of a right-wing media run amok, with Samuel Jackson drawing parallels between himself and a recently crowned president-elect. The cinematography is pure FOX News, ostensibly black-and-white (or as they say "fair and balanced"), except for the splashes of color that masquerade as "editorializing." This film has less in common with Batman and Spider-Man than it does with "All The President's Men" and "Missing.

A very interesting and unique film, and while its similar to 'Sin City' its very different at the same time. Starts off rather odd but once you are drawn into the storyline you're pretty much hooked for the rest of the film. Very likeable characters, especially 'The Spirit' himself and Sand Saref. Visually it also looks fantastic using a similar style that Sin City did. Acting performances were also brilliant with many stand-outs. Overall it is weird but still a great film well worth a look!
