First of all, I know nothing about the source material/comic. Of the recent crop of comic based movies this is by and far my favorite. Wildly entertaining, visually stunning and surprisingly funny. Unlike fellow comic based movies like Watchmen and SIn City, The Spirit doesn't take itself so serisously which I find refreshing. If you like your comics with that attached to reality feeling you probably won't enjoy The Spirit because it takes everything to a comic extreme. I think it fabulous but apparently I'm in the minority.

I really liked this flick--a visual treat done in very tongue-in-cheek style of a film noir. I especially liked the face off between Floss and Sand. I don't understand why the ratings are what they are. You have to take this for what it is--it's not meant to be Shakespeare.Just enjoy the beauty of its visual appeal and go along for the fun ride that it is.

I think this movie needed a stronger/star actor in the lead role: one the audience can identify with. Samuel L. Jackson deserves a truly worthy adversary for his wonderful villain portrayal to permeate the whole movie and not only the scenes he's in.
