Warm, funny and moving. A real gem of a movie. John Hawkes should have been nominated for Oscar for this! Glad Helen Hunt got the nod though.

Oh man, underrated to the extreme. One of the best indie movies ever made, and maybe John Hawke's best performance. Helen Hunt is incredible. William H. Macy even holds his own.

Where nudity and sex has become a major comedic piece in hollywood or a graphic depiction of rape or some gruesome level, along comes the Sessions and is able to get to the heart of sexual contact. A performance unmatched from Helen Hunt, a sex therapist who is trying to help a polio victim (fantastic job by John Hawkes) lose his virginity and have the ability to understand the pleasure and other feelings associated with sex, is incredibly touching and refreshing. Though Ms. Hunt is naked for almost the entire film, you never feel like your watching a sex show or some low grade porn film, the nudity becomes a major part of the film and how the characters interact and share their feelings, being so far apart. Witty and well timed jokes bring this film together for a beautiful film deserving of much more praise.

Very few films are quite this nuanced, and able to pull it off with such grace and precision. There is little I can say other than this is just simply an excellent film; you need to watch it to really understand its painful beauty.
