You've got to know a secret to tell a secret. Good movie! This film represents a dying breed of crime thriller in which character and plot take precedence over action and special effects. It could have drowned in a sea of car chases, shootouts, brutal fistfights, and even gore. Whatever we do see in those respects is used only when absolutely necessary. That's good when those moments finally happen, they will elicit authentic shock and excitement from the audience. No one will be numb from scene after scene of mindless violence and choreography. All in all, it was a thoroughly entertaining flick which is worth a watch. After twenty years in prison, Foley is finished with the grifter's life. Sylvester Stallone plays a reclusive neighbor to a 13 year old (Javon "Wanna" Walton), but turns out he's also a "retired" vigilante superhero. As expected, a villain appears requiring the titular hero to emerge. Stallone's character is virtually indestructible and extra strong, so his encounters have him tossing people about. Other than the flying bodies, the action is not special. Then there's the relationship between the 2 main characters, which is supposed to add heart and drive this toward a family audience, but there's no warmth or connection. The wider appeal also explains why the violence is mild. Even though the pacing keeps moving, the writing and fighting offer nothing new or even mildly exciting.

Not a terrible thriller/heist movie, but it was a little predictable - ex-con gets out of jail, but then gets pulled back into the criminal underworld by his old partner's son. Pretty gross when you find out Jackson has been sleeping with his daughter (that he thought he never had) all along! Needed more Wilkinson to try & elevate it more.

Despite a story as old as Oedipus, Weaver has created an atmosphere that allows Jackson et. al to grab your attention and hold it to the predictable end.
