Cape Fear (1991)

Sam Bowden is a small-town corporate attorney. Max Cady is a tattooed, cigar-smoking, Bible-quoting, psychotic rapist. What do they have in common? 14 years ago, Sam was a public defender assigned to Max Cady's rape trial, and he made a serious error: he hid a document from his illiterate client that could have gotten him acquitted. Now, the cagey Cady has been released, and he intends to teach Sam Bowden and his family a thing or two about loss.

Deniro was one evil bad guy in this cant beileve how good he was. The whole thing kept reminding me of that simpsons episode where they took this off. Thought the last half hour was full of suspence all thanks to Deniro playing one of the best bad guys ive ever seen.

Excellent update of the original and one of Scorsese's best (which says a lot, I know). If Hitchcock were making films in the 90's, this is what he would have made.

Robert De Niro scared the hell out of me when I watched it for the first time. "You're scared. But that's Ok. I want you to savor that fear"

One of the few "remakes" that works, Scorsese reinvents and updates the story while still staying true to it. Many of the scenes are shot frame-for-frame from the original, and the music is an update of Bernard Herrman's original score (not a bad guy to improve). There are so many things going right in this, it is hard to say what stands out although I confess a weakness for the scene where Cady is attacked in the alleyway.

One of my all time favorite Scorsese films. It's arguably my 2nd Favorite. Bob De Niro's performance is perfect and the noir thriller style is executed with precision. Just a great film that is watchable over and over.
