Sam Bowden is a small-town corporate attorney. Max Cady is a tattooed, cigar-smoking, Bible-quoting, psychotic rapist. What do they have in common? 14 years ago, Sam was a public defender assigned to Max Cady's rape trial, and he made a serious error: he hid a document from his illiterate client that could have gotten him acquitted. Now, the cagey Cady has been released, and he intends to teach Sam Bowden and his family a thing or two about loss.

This film gives me chills every time I watch it. Scorsese's direction is better than ever, and De Niro delivers probably his most underrated performance. This is the definition of a good horror.

remake to 1962 & also de niro is the greatest villian. director martin scorsese is still working with starring robert de niro again. gregory peck, robert mitchum, & martin balsam cameo that is from the original.

this is a great movie. Robert DE niro should have won best actor and i think he is more terrifying than Robert mitchum who is also in this movie. nick nolte did very good as SAM bowden and Juliette Lewis did wonderful as the daughter and the wife was good. this movie had a cameo by the late great Gregory peck. this movie is a rare remake that is better than the original. overall terrific movie. and martin Scorsese best director

Excellent update of the original and one of Scorsese's best (which says a lot, I know). If Hitchcock were making films in the 90's, this is what he would have made.

One of the only good remakes, though not one of the greatest of Martin Scorsese's films it still pays a great homage to the original. Robert De Niro's performance as Max Cady is shockingly scary and disturbing, maybe not as much as Robert Mitchum.
