Jane Russell plays her role of Mamie with heartfelt emotion and greed. She had everything and did everything to spoil it. Playing a hooker overcome by greed for money. The conclusion was a bit of a let down I must say!

An engrossing film with a standout performance by the highly underrate Jane Russell. Unfortunately, censorship lessened some of the feminist themes of a woman in the 1940s trying to build her own wealth and security after being used and abused by a misogynistic society. That said, elements still remain. Definitely worth a watch.

This adaptation of William Bradford Huie's novel offers brunette Jane Russell with atypically red hair and brunette Agnes Moorehead with atypically blonde hair. And that's about it for novelty value.
