This adaptation of William Bradford Huie's novel offers brunette Jane Russell with atypically red hair and brunette Agnes Moorehead with atypically blonde hair. And that's about it for novelty value.

An engrossing film with a standout performance by the highly underrate Jane Russell. Unfortunately, censorship lessened some of the feminist themes of a woman in the 1940s trying to build her own wealth and security after being used and abused by a misogynistic society. That said, elements still remain. Definitely worth a watch.

Frustratingly bad. The bungalow stuff was interesting.

Michael E. Grost 16 Jul 2009

Unusual film about a sinister woman who rises to the financial top through war profiteering.
