Sophie's Choice (1982)

Stingo, a young writer, moves to Brooklyn in 1947 to begin work on his first novel. As he becomes friendly with Sophie and her lover Nathan, he learns that she is a Holocaust survivor. Flashbacks reveal her harrowing story, from pre-war prosperity to Auschwitz. In the present, Sophie and Nathan's relationship increasingly unravels as Stingo grows closer to Sophie and Nathan's fragile mental state becomes ever more apparent.

Sophie's Choice is an excellent film. It is about a mother has to make a very difficult decision. Kevin Kline and Meryl Streep give amazing performances. The screenplay is well written. Alan J. Pakula did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama and romance. Sophie's Choice is a must see.

This was the film that made me realize that Meryl Streep was the greatest actor ever. She rightfully took the Oscar that year (1983) - the last year she would see one (thusfar.) But I should not digress on a rant about the Academy shafting Meryl. This film is riveting - sometimes glamorous and, other times, full of despair. Violent, dramatic, dark, passionate - I may always consider it my favorite novel-to-film adaptation. Kevin Kline busted right through the door in this, his film debut.

I was SOO impressed by Meryl Streep. She is so beautiful. She is so talented. She played this role with this accent so beautifully. The Whole cast is great. I was amazed!!! VERY GOOD MOVIE!!!!

This is an amazing film, brilliantly written, Meryl Streep is amazing is this, what a talent. The scene where she must choose between her two children. Heartbreaking stuff!! A classic!!
