Jesus, this film is a kick in stomach. I can't watch it anymore because it just breaks my heart. Maybe the best female acting performance of our time, and Kevin Kline is good too.

Great adaptation of the over-written Styron novel. Amazing acting. Meryl Streep nails, absolutely nails, the Polish accent! She sounds exactly like my Polish grandmother. Kevin Kline was born to play Nathan - his gift for accents and hammy overacting, tempered by his dramatic turns, fit in perfectly with Nathan's manic personality. And Peter MacNicol (Cage in Ally McBeal, Janosz in Ghostbusters II) completes the mostly platonic trio as the perfect shy, sexually frustrated southerner in the heart of Jewish Brooklyn. A very powerful movie, even if you know the "twist" ending (which I did).

Of all the movies that depict the horrors of Nazi Germany, this is the one that haunts me the most. The story unfolds perfectly. Best to see before you have kids.

There are very few movies I could watch over and over again - this is one of them. Perfect in every way.

Meryl Streep is fucking amazing. This movie is long but worth it.
