I clearly underestimated Nicole Kidman until I saw this movie.

I haven't read the novel, but this movie seems a bit strange.. Actually I don't understabd why Kidman was possesed by the cruel man for years. have to read the book to understand.

I picked up this movie by chance and was very pleasantly surprised. Nicole Kidman really did a pretty good job as the leading lady in the film. It is heart breaking story of one woman's surrendering to a man and then realizing too late the horrid mistake she has made. It causes the viewer to think twice about surrendering one's dreams even when disapproved of by society, friends, and family.

I don't remember the novel well enough to say if this was a good adaptation. I I found the movie interesting though drawn out, with some innovative filming bits in it.
