Great story of greed and it's effects. Great scenery and screenplay. It's Bogart, that should be good enough.

Putting Humphrey Bogart in his element once again, The Treasure of The Sierra Madre is another wonderful adventure film. Directed by John Huston, it tells the story of three men who join together in their search for an elusive treasure in Mexico. At the beginning, they are in good spirits eager to become wealthy. However, when they finally strike it rich they find it is not all it is cracked up to be . The situation escalates and they become paranoid of each other. Finally, Bogart's character Dobbs is pushed over the edge and commits a malicious act out of desperation. Seemingly as an act of karma, he meets with another form of justice. However, it seems that by the end no one actually wins. A surprisingly good film, Sierra Madre takes your usual treasure hunt and realistically depicts man's greed which often can overpower everything else. Bogart was supported nicely by Walter Huston (the father of the director) and Tim Holt.

They don't make films like this anymore. Some of the best quotes and moments of cinematic history derive from this film. "Badges, we don't got no badges, I Don't Need to show you No STINKING BADGES!" as well as the scene with one guy watching the other guy over a span of 24 hours and slowly falling asleep. I loved it, Bogart was a badass as is expected and there were great performances from Tim Holt and Walter Huston as well. There Will Be Blood definitely took a page or two from this ol'fashioned epic. If you ever run across it, give it a chance, who knows, you may like it.

An energetic and entertaining movie that sees Bogart and Huston play two homeless Americans in Mexico who chase a dream of finding gold in nearby mountains. In the end it is a sharp look at what greed and suspicion can do men, with Humphrey Bogarts character treading the darkest paths. Certainly earns the right to be categorized a classic!

John Huston and Humphrey Bogart re-team to make this classic film. Like 'Wall Street' and especially the recent 'There Will be Blood', the film demonstrates the evils of greed. Bogart gives his most unsettling portrayal as a descent man gone mad from greed. He befriends two men who are down on their luck like he is and make a pact to go gold prospecting in the mountains in an attempt to strike it rich. But as the months pass Bogart develops a bad case of paranoia and believes that his partners are after his cut of the gold findings. Huston creates a dark and disturbing mood with his visuals of Bogart's developing insanity. Bogart is similar to how Frodo is in 'The Lord of the Rings' when the ring takes over him and he urges to keep it instead of destroy it. He is also like Jack Torrence in the Shining, how he starts off as a descent man but slowly goes insane.
