Sublime screwball, from the Wiener King to the Ale & Quail Club - even Mary Astor shines in this one!

The Palm Beach Story has an admittedly amusing but silly ending and The Ale and Quail Club took too much of the screen time acting as a detour. Other than those flaws, the film is great and incredibly entertaining featuring witty dialogue, many very funny moments and such an authentic opening. The four main characters are all so likable and charming with all of the four actors being so well cast and delivering terrific comedic performances.

Claudette Colbert is A++. This is the first time I've thought of her as genuinely sexy, even though I've seen her in plenty of other things. She has a very warm presence in TPBS, which helps sustain the film. Otherwise, it could have been very bitter and cynical. Instead, it is hilarious. (Although, really, someone needs to talk about Sturges' race problems. I know they're not unique to him but they really cause problems when you try to watch the movies now.)

Loved this film and it was my first time seeing it. Written/directed by comedy genius Preston Sturges, this movie just moves along at a high pace with plenty of jokes and laughs along the way. Great example of a screwball comedy from the 30's/early 40's. Both Joel McCrea and Claudette Colbert are excellent. a MUST watch for all film lovers!

Fantastic movie!!!!! Loved every minute of the movie!!! Claudette Colbert is amazing in this. Joel McCrea is wonderful too!!! An adorable movie that I would love to watch again!!!
