Netflix recommended this since I always give Bette Davis films 5 stars. I'm so glad they recommended it because it was such an interesting film in so many ways. Great dialogue, interesting and sad story, and Bette Davis does a fabulous job in her part. And, by the way, I want to smack her cousin Delia so many times. So...my friends should rent this film and see why Delia got me so angry ;)

Underrated, often overlooked Bette Davies movie. Sadly its a chick flick, but its so worth it for the wonderful dialogue and relatively restrained acting on Davie's part. Quick synopsis: Bette Davies' charactor has an illegitamte child which she is persuaded to give up to her cousin (the marvellous Miriam Hopkins) and has to stand by as her child grow up treating her like acranky, old maiden Aunt. You will be in floods of tears by the end, partcularly during the final scene Bette Davies has with her daughter. Essential viewing for any fans of Davies and anyone who fancies some good old fashioned entertainment.

What a great film this is. Bette Davis is magnificent, I love her films from the 1930's and 1940's. You can sense the real life animosity between Davis and co-star Miriam Hopkins. I think it helps the film work as well as it does. Great story, excellent production, particularly the costumes and art direction. A great classic.
