The Naked City (1948) Full Movie

I have a soft spot in my heart for great detective films. They used to inspire me to conduct my own investigations when problems arose. They are just great fun and usually don't serve any other purpose than to entertain. The Naked City is a great example of that entertaining thrill you get watching hard-boiled detectives uncover a mystery. It's a short glimpse into this naked city, and it's exactly why I love detective films. It doesn't necessarily offer any answers to deep philosophical questions, and other than great psychological personifications in the characters it's not even a massively deep story. However it creates a universe that you're immersed in for this 96 minute adventure with great acting and a gritty feel. It's one of those films that's just a blast to watch for adrenaline and intellectual reasons.

Has gotta be the first great cop film ever. With such insight into the goings on of a case, and with action way ahead of its time, spectacular movie.

Later films like William Friedkin's "The French Connection" would take police dramas to whole new levels of realism, but this was an important, early step.

Oringial at it's time for being filed outside of a studio, this is still a fun watch. Barry Fitzgerald is also great non Hollywood casting as the little old Irish cop. Has some fun with the joys of police procedure in the days before computers and some surprising humour. May well have got a higher rating if i'd given it better attention.
