Solid New York crime thriller follows a group of detecitives as they search for the killer of a model. Really gets down into the details of police work as they collect evidence and question witnesses and suspects. Much different from other police thrillers of the time as this one is very procedural (and probably a heavy influence on modern TV shows like CSI and Law & Order.) Performances aren't great and the voice over was a little much at times, but the film does move at a fairly brisk pace and is very notable for director Jules Dassin's decision to shoot on location, never using a set, allowing New York to become another character all its own.

wow umn just seen this movie 4 the 1st time n think that this is a really good movie 2 watch..its got a really good cast of actors/actressess throguhout this movie...its a black n white movie but its really enjoyable 2 watch...its got a good cast of actors/actressess throguhout this movie..i think that don tayloer plays a good part throughout this movie this is a good drama/classic movie 2 watch n its a good movie which is enjoyable

The research librarian in me loves this procedural drama about a the murder of a party girl and the steps the police go through to solve the case. Some people made find it too slow, but for detail-oriented folks like me, it's a treat.
