The Mule (2018)

Earl Stone, a man in his eighties, is broke, alone, and facing foreclosure of his business when he is offered a job that simply requires him to drive. Easy enough, but, unbeknownst to Earl, he's just signed on as a drug courier for a Mexican cartel. He does so well that his cargo increases exponentially, and Earl hit the radar of hard-charging DEA agent Colin Bates.

This movie is as much a eulogy for a country that Eastwood sees as slowly crumbling as it is for the life Earl chose to lead.

The Mule is pretty funny, but none of that humor fits in this story, and the characters are as bleak as bleak can get.

The Mule is not one of Eastwood’s greats, but it does hold your interest and keep you tickled, almost from first to last.

This film is so incredibly bazar. The story is unbelievable and believable at the same time, and Clint Eastwood's overblown perception of himself (and his...odd sense of humor) definitely came through the screen and slapped me a few times as I watched it. It also drags on far longer than it needed to, and an unnecessary amount of time is spent just watching Clint drive down roads in his car. But, I also didn't walk out feeling entirely disappointed? Just....weird.

I feel like I wouldn't have liked this picture if it wasn't for Clint Eastwood's spectacular performance. As always, Clint was charming, naive, hilarious and bad-ass all rolled into one genius character part by an extremely decorated and legendary actor. But I found the film itself to be rather predictable and lacking here and there in plot and reality.
