A brilliant movie. It was great to see a Soviet war time film. Gosh, the things that happened on there, and the crude and ineffective way they tried to contain the radiation leakage. I felt sorry for those guys who suffered and died on there. It was also nice to see that there was a believer on there, but he would have been an outcast if his secret got out that he was a Christian, and they were all from communist Soviet Russia. But another sailor sympathizes with him. Great movie.

In 1959, the Soviet Union launches its first nuclear submarine, the K-19 - nicknamed "The Widowmaker" due to many deaths that occurred during manufacturing. The ship is led by Captain Alexei Vostrikov (Harrison Ford), aided by executive officer Mikhail Polenin (Liam Neeson). One day, the ship's reactor cooling system starts to fail, leading the sailors to work together in order to both save the crew's lives as well as prevent a nuclear accident that could trigger World War III. I would like to say this is one of great work by Harission Ford ever.

The machismo gets the best of it and the film needs a trim, but it's servicable entertainment helmed by one of the best action directors on the planet.

Tense and very exciting film. The attention to detail and the whole look of the film is wonderful. The cast is incredible as well, but...and I can't believe I am typing this...my biggest problem with the picture is Harrison Ford. I didn't find his performance as the Russian Submarine Commander convincing. It almost seemed like he was just going through the motions of getting a performance on screen. Great film, otherwise.
