The Last Days of Patton (1986)

Gen. George S. Patton now works a desk job for the U.S. military after World War II. In the midst of dealing with the difficulty of adapting to his dramatic change of lifestyle, Patton is involved in an auto wreck that leaves him in critical condition. While his body fails him, Patton introspectively reminisces about his relationship with his spouse, Beatrice; his childhood; and his days on the WWI battlefields.

A Great Companion to the 1970 hit, and a must-watch for military buffs. I only wish it had been filmed in a better format than 4:3 for television.

I saw this on the History Channel one night when I was around 17 - never got around to seeing the original "Patton" yet (even though my dad has the video). The acting was excellent, and the story brought a human side to the hubris we associate with generals. I think the actor who played "Hap" had the best performance in the movie.

This film is the flip side of the Epic 1970 film Patton. Whereas the first film shows the larger-than-life epic general, this film picks up where that story left off and shows his human side. Together, this is cinematic genius. Although The Last Days of Patton is not nearly as noteworthy or compelling, it makes a great sequel for those who loved the first film. Of course, George C. Scott does a great job reprising his role as General George S. Patton.

Scott reprises his role as General Patton in this excellent Made-For-TV film. I remember watching this when it was first premiered in 1986, and it still holds up today. Scott has made Patton his own in the original 1970 film and this one as well. He is surrounded by a stellar supporting cast and great Direction by Delbert Mann.

If you saw Patton, then this is an important movie. If you didn't see Patton, watch this and you will!
