The Last Days on Mars (2013)

On the last day of the first manned mission to Mars, a crew member of Tantalus Base believes he has made an astounding discovery – fossilized evidence of bacterial life. Unwilling to let the relief crew claim all the glory, he disobeys orders to pack up and goes out on an unauthorized expedition to collect further samples. But a routine excavation turns to disaster when the porous ground collapses and he falls into a deep crevice. His devastated colleagues attempt to recover his body. However, when another vanishes, they start to suspect that the life-form they have discovered is not without danger.

I was very surprised with this one as i wasn´t expecting to have as much fun as i did at all. It reminded me of one of these classic 50´s B movies and although it´s not exactly an original plot, despite being your very basic "zombie" movie on Mars, i thought it was highly entretaining. The cast was excelent, the Martian settings although simple worked perfectly and i think it was very interesting movie despite having no surprises at all in it. As a Mars movie i think it delivered altough im still waiting for the definitive Face on Mars themed story to appear instead of just another zombie flic in space. Nevertheless i liked it a lot and i wasnt expecting that.

This is an actual, intelligently made film. It didn't take long before i was gripped by the story. Its a sci-fi thriller and a bit of a horror, monster, old school feeling, great ride. Just sad that the majority don't get quality film like the last days on mars. In a way I'm okay with not having to share. :)

Really surprising and extremely enjoyable fresh take on the undead genre: a sort of Alien-come-Dawn-of-the-Dead caper across Mars. Superb cast and Liev really is on a post-Ray Donovan roll in my humble onion...
