A father reacts to his son being invisible by essentially saying he'll grow out of it? Really? Terrible lines and acting

Gem of a Saturday matinee which treats young people as little adults, yet gets much of the science right. Automating everything isn't the solution to anything.

The other day I was watching this messed up Robby the Robot Movie from the 50s, or the 40s. Robby the Robot was some kid's best friend in the future. His Father was some kind of super scientist. This Big Computer tried to take over the world, And it reprogrammed, Robby the Robot to Kill his best friend the kid. basicly, the computer was ransoming the kid for the world, long story short, Robby couldn't do it, so the kid got away, and the Computer... uhhhh actually the movie never said what happened to it, It was a very vague and open ending. Anyway, The thing about Robby the Robot was they said he was a fast and lethal killing machine, but whenever he actually appeared, he was woblin along at a steady 2mph. I loved this movie.

I had heard about this film and it has Robby the Robot in it so I wanted to see it. It was included with the special edition DVD of Forbidden Planet so I finally got to see it. This film could have benefited from about seven or eight rewrites. The plot involves a super computer built by the boy's father. The boy is put with the computer to learn from it. It puts him in a trance and makes him capable of maneuvering his father into letting him have Robby the Robot. The super computer develops artificial intelligence and uses the robot and the boy to lever the father into giving it a secret code that will allow it to rule the world. At some point the robot makes the boy a potion that makes him invisible but that has hardly anything to do with the plot. This is like a very bad pilot to Leave it to Beaver without the funny stuff. The writing is poor and the action is episodic and unconnected. I'm glad I finally got to see it but I cannot recommend it to you.

Adults as well as children should be entertained by this sci-fier that succeeds without much technological gadgetry, instead relying on its charm.
