A bizarrely twisted revenge/mystery/holiday plot lures (the ever-wonderful) Tadanobu Asano into a very confusing journey in this four-language co-production (english, thai, japanese and cantonese). It is certainly odd hearing Asano speak english and the initial multi-lingual confusion can be distracting but this is nonetheless a very absorbing, if rather nihilistic film. The rusty cargo-hold look is impressively consistent and Hye-Jeong Kang(?)'s character is great, though not really given enough airing. The convoluted plot is weakened by the mixed languages and length, which means that quite a bit of patience is needed though the strong tone, and of course Asano himself, do eventually come through...

A beautiful art house thriller, from the director of 'Last Life In The Universe'. Top notch cinematography by Christopher Doyle, nice tight script, great soundtrack that helped set the mood, but I'm afraid it's no LLITU, it's close and they both share a certain feel, but this one doesn't have the full beauty and charm of its predecessor.

like the delicate images from which it is composed, the narrative of Invisible Waves is a series of suggestions and ellipses that viewers must complete and colour for themselves.

I'm starting to fell that Pen-Ek movies are all the same slow paced kind of affair. This was an okay film but 'Last Life In The Universe' is a much better film.

This is the first film directed by Ratanaruang that I have seen. The plot was good, but it wasn´t well developed. This could have been a lot better, specially taking into account some twists in the story that had a lot of potential. Next time, maybe.
