Richard Basehart's performance is beyond creepy.

This was rather good - a concentration camp survivor takes on the identity of a dead friend so that she can travel to America, but discovers that others may also not be telling the truth. 7.5/10

I wholeheartedly agree with an earlier review - the film would've worked far better had we not known about Victoria's deception until later in the picture (perhaps not even until the final scene). Some interesting performances, although the child actor is truly terrible

A semi-gothic psychological suspense noir in the style of The Spiral Staircase, with excellent cinematography but a bit convoluted and slow in places. Valentina Cortesa plays a woman who assumes the identity of a friend she knew in a German concentration camp in order to immigrate to America. She then travels to San Francisco where she inherits a house atop Telegraph Hill as a result of her assumed identity, but fears the estate's trustee, played by Richard Basehart, and the long-time governess of the son she has assumed with her new identity. Good film about paranoia in the noir style.

Valentina Cortese is really very good in this. Average film though, as far as film noir is concerned. Lots of buildup and too boring of a payoff.
