Dr. Bock, the chief of medicine at a Manhattan hospital, is suicidal after the collapse of his personal life. When an intern is found dead in a hospital bed, it appears to Bock to be a case of unforgivable malpractice. Hours later, another doctor, who happens to be responsible for another case of malpractice, is found dead. Despondent, Bock finds himself drawn to Barbara, the daughter of a comatose missionary.

Brilliant Paddy Chayefsky screenplay, and easily the equal of Network -- although not as popular. Great performances from Scott, Diana Rigg, Bernard Hughes, Frances Sternhagen, everybody really. It is from the 1970s, but not sure why that qualifies as "dates badly." Does Casablanca "date quite badly" to the 1940s?

Deeply nasty, and very funny satire of modern medicine (40 years ago), and just about everything else.

Mildly amusing black comedy with flashes of brilliance but definitely not up to the standards of some of Paddy Chayefsky's other screenplays such as "Network" or "Marty".

George C Scott's performance will take you to a dark place of the imagination that will haunt you. The script will bend your mind into a cynical view of the era of hippies.

I honestly couldn't even finish this film, the tone seemed confused on whether it'd be serious or satire. The dialogue was mediocre and sometimes frustrating. I found it hard to have any and all focus in the film, and I think the director had the same problem.
