It's all been said a million times, but.. Crawford's best (and Blyth's too), with stunning cinematography, an awesome script with some of the best lines, this is quality melodrama of the highest order! An absolute classic!

Joan Crawford is perfect in this role as Mildred Pierce. You want to shake her when it comes to the way she gives into her daughter but everything about the story is amazing.

Great film about a woman who does anything to please the most ungrateful daughter in the world. Ive always felt that the character of Mildred Pierce only wants what she can't have, she wants the love of the daughter who doesn't love her and takes for granted the daughter that does. She wants the man who betrays her and not the one that sticks by her the entire time. These wants drive her all the way to the top, economically of course. Look out for the metaphor involving the hard drinks, at the start of the film Mildred won't even touch liquor but by the end she is drinking it straight. Great Film

i saw this movie a long time ago. its like its a film noir too. an blyth was so good she needs ano scar! y couldnt faye dunaway do this part of her caeer uhh?

Just caught this last night on the big screen at Sid Grauman's restored Million Dollar Theatre in downtown L.A. Joan Crawford was brilliant, although Eve Arden steals every scene she's in. Ann Blyth seemed a natural as the bad seed. In the audience last night was Ann Blyth's daughter, which made the whole dynamic kind of interesting, as did seeing the film with something like two thousand people. Anyway, the story sort of mixes it up. It's kinda film noir, kinda family drama, kind of a romance. Partly that can be explained by the fact that something like a dozen screenwriters worked on this thing, although only one got screen credit. The most recent Indy movie had about that many writers and only suffered for it. For this film that strategy yielded the exact opposite result. And did I mention Joan's awesome?
