One of the great film noirs. A scathing attack on the dark side of the idea of American upward mobility and family values. Director Michael Curtiz's adept handling of the entire supporting class is wonderful. A great entertainment that has stood the test of time both stylistically and thematically.

I watched this movie when I was only about 16-17 years old and I loved it. I wondered if I could be that independent and courageous, especially with a daughter and husband like that.
