The Highwaymen never quite manages to conjure a changing world, and as a result its more interesting ideas are left blowing in the wind. But as an excuse to spend some time with Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson doing what Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson do, it’ll do just fine.

Here Kevin Costner shines in one of the somewhat quieter films. Very good acting performances slowly drive the film to its climax at the end of the film. Woody Harrelson also shines as his partner in this road movie. The film captivates until the end, if you don't know the historical ending beforehand. Well made, technically and historically well researched solid film.

After noble and varied entries like "Jack Reacher," "Hell Or High Water," and "The Old Man & The Gun," The Highwaymen is a crucial reminder that good Dad Movies aren’t as easy to make as they look.

A bit slow at times, but not boring-slow. More in the way how it suits the age of the characters and the times it portrays. It needs to be slow-moving. It also allows the story to breath and the background stories of the main characters to be fleshed out. I liked that. Both Harrelson and Costner play their parts well. There's some humor in there too. Underplayed of course - it's not a comedy. But it's ever present in the relationship between the highwaymen. The old-man humor. And it's important in a movie depicting a story as ultimately serious and bizarre as this one.

The idea of this movie is better than it's production. Ex Texas Rangers brought back from retirement to hunt down Bonnie & Clyde, played by Costner & Harrelson, where do I sign up, take my money, right? This movie is slow rolled, with any sort of kick ass purposefully left out for messaging. I didn't hate this move, but I didn't love it either.
