One of those all-too-rare heart warming films that manage to avoid mawkish sentiment. Gentle, funny and with superb characterization it's impossible to dislike this film. Surreal at times (The American national anthem will never seem the same after this....) and with a beautifully paced love story thread, it still manages to tell an important true story. Sam Neill sleepwalks through his role and is surrounded by totally believeable characters, the aspergic mathmetician is an absolute gem, caught out in a situation they didn't anticpate and are ill equipped to handle. Some memorable lines make it laugh out loud funny - "He knows all there is to know about Apollo 11" - "Does he know where it is?".

Back when geeks had complicated rulers and it *was* rocket science, Australia was in the game. Hell yeah - we just did it our way is all. A great cast of favourites and plenty of humour keep the politics and the cringe in line. I love this film just for being itself, but also for being something that shows Australian character outside of "The Castle" and "Kath and Kim". Rounded, warm and everybody wins - like a good cardigan really.

a similar movie to the station agent in that not a lot happens, but i like the characters and it is a gentle fun film. great film if you are fed up.

Wonderful stuff from all the cast especially Roy Billing.Just seen it again and loved it.
