The Help (2011)

Aibileen Clark is a middle-aged African-American maid who has spent her life raising white children and has recently lost her only son; Minny Jackson is an African-American maid who has often offended her employers despite her family's struggles with money and her desperate need for jobs; and Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan is a young white woman who has recently moved back home after graduating college to find out her childhood maid has mysteriously disappeared. These three stories intertwine to explain how life in Jackson, Mississippi revolves around "the help"; yet they are always kept at a certain distance because of racial lines.

This film is fantastic. I still haven't read the book, but I understand why the story was critically acclaimed. You should definitely watch this if you haven't yet, there's something in this for everyone.

im sorry to see that this movie got bad ratings by some top critics. i say shame on u. i understand that when watching movies u tend to go over every little detail but seriously? When i watched this movie i got lost. it surrounded me in a real setting that made me feel almost like apart of the movie. i was screeming at the televison like i was watching a ball game. if u are reading this and u didnt absoloutely love this movie... you can go fuck yourself.

I finally caught this on TV the other night and stayed up very late because I couldn't shut it off. What a great movie, it definitely lives up to all the hype I remember from award season a couple years ago. The entire cast is so flippin fantastic. I can't remember who won the academy award'(s?) but I will tell you who surprised me here was Bryce Dallas Howard as the bitchy society girl. The range her character showed, what an evil woman but again everyone was so great. I'll admit to being uncomfortable and angry with certain scenes (as I was meant to be) but also proud because the world is a changing. 01.07.14 "An aspiring author (Emma Stone) in 1960s Mississippi sends her community into an uproar by conducting a series of probing interviews with the black female servants of the areas most prominent white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis."

With an incredible story based on a book by Kathryn Stockett and written and directed brilliantly by Tate Taylor, an amazing cast full of wonderful performances headed by Emma Stone as Skeeter, Viola Davis as Aibileen, Oscar winner Octavia Spencer as Minny, Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain as Cecilia Foote and Bryce Dallas Howard as Hilly Holbrook, beautiful scenes and sequences and a long but perfect pace and flow, The Help is a well-done inspirational movie that presents the power of storytelling with dynamic characters and full of heart and tears.
