Years after seeing it for the first time, this sprawling 3 hour epic is still a moving, emotionally riveting account of the sacrifices made by a few good men who ended up lost amidst the chaos of the Vietnam war both there and back at home. It's a heartbreaking film but also one of the most hauntingly beautiful ever made.

Horrible stuff happens, but it is supposed to be that way. It very accurately shows war and different remains it leaves of people. Robert De Niro, of course, does a great job and has a great character to play.

People who say this film is flawed because it's one sided are retarded. This movie is a haunting, extremely well acted movie.

Have seen some other great Hollywood movies about warfare. They're mostly about the war itself. But this one, it's less about the war & more about the life before & after the war & it's effects on them. Sometimes feel like a bit biased. But maybe, that's the whole point, "one point of view". That's enough to understand all of it. Couldn't agree more as a Sri Lankan.
