Though Davies is paying more attention to plot here, this is still a personal and monumentally artistic achievement.

This was a well acted movie that is not so much plot driven as character and emotion driven. If you can get through the slow start, it is worth the wait. It is a chronology of a breakup, or anatomy of an affair from an emotional point of view. Weisz is spectacular!

A study in repression and obsession in 1950's Britain. If you love someone more than life itself, you are putting yourself in peril. Best enjoyed by anglophiles with an appreciation of history and class structures

A beautifully made exploration of etiquette, lost-love and the horrible over-bearing quality of an oppressive city. Weisz and Hiddleston are excellent, raw emotions flying left, right and centre convincingly, without ever descending into farce or melodrama. Beautiful.
