The Daytrippers (1997)

Eliza D'Amico thinks her marriage to Louis is going great until she finds a mysterious love note to her husband. Concerned, she goes to her mother for advice. Eliza, her parents, her sister Jo, and Jo's boyfriend all pile into the station wagon and go to the city to confront Louis with the letter. On the way, the five explore their relations with each other and meet many interesting people.

When you’re through watching The Daytrippers, you think about its minor imperfections, not because the film’s bad, but because it’s so good.

After an hour and a quarter of dead pan humor that only works in fits and spurts, the film finally comes alive in the last ten minutes.

I love Parker Posey! She is brilliant in this movie, and especially in the scenes with the family gathered around the breakfast table and riding in the car. Liev Schreiber, as Posey's boyfriend, has some great lines, and he is very believable at dealing with awkward situations. Hope Davis, Anne Meara, and Stanley Tucci are all great fun to watch.

amazing little indie film that very few have seen. a family road trip... not a bad performance among them. funny and touching. find it if you can...

It was very, I don't know, sleepy? Weird, surreal stuff started happening in the middle of these long pauses of nothing. And I spent the entire half of the movie thinking Parker Posey's character had some kind of a mental defect, which I don't think was how she was meant to be interpreted.
