The Dance of Reality (2013)

'Having broken away from my illusory self, I was desperately seeking a path and a meaning to life.' This phrase perfectly sums up Alejandro Jodorowsky's biographical project: reconstituting the incredible adventure of his life. He was born in 1929 Tocopilla, a coastal town on edge of the Chilean desert, where he discovered the fundamentals of reality, as he underwent an unhappy and alienated childhood as part of an uprooted family.

Very intruiging, touching, and all around the most genuine film I've ever seen. It touches the heart of what it means to be human. Its helpful to have read Jodorowsky's book Psychomagic to understand his mindset and the "act" that he is doing with the film. Its his own healing, and through watching it, it heals others. Well, it did me, at least.

The magical dreamlike narration of Jodorowsky's particular style is as hypnotic and magnetic as always, yet this story is not as powerful as it intends to be.

We never quite know where a Jodorowsky film is going to take us. That's a bonus in the present age of bland predictability.

Tedious would be kind. It's a pointless load of pretentious twat.
