I was surprised how terrific this movie was; too bad Crowe got bad press for the phone-throwing incident when the movie opened! I saw it in L.A. and the audience clapped at the end...

Superb film from a superb filmmaker. I'm not ashamed to say this one had me in tears a number of times. Russell Crowe is such a force of talent, he truly embodies and becomes the roles he chooses and pulls them off perfectly. You don't believe you're watching Russell Crowe play Jim Braddock, you believe you're watching Jim Braddock. The long running time isn't a bother as the film is so watchable and without filler, it breezes by in no time. Just a very touching, inspiring, well told, exceedingly well made film. It doesn't best Raging Bull or The Fighter as far as boxing movies are concerned, but it's up there.

One of the most inspirational true stories I have seen. An engrossing and emotionally moving film about one of the greatest comebacks in boxing history. Russell Crowe gives one of his best performances as James J Braddock and I have no idea why he didn't get another Oscar nomination for this. James was a centered character and very easy to relate to. Paul Giamatti was fantastic as his loyal and passionate manger. This is also the only film I actually liked Renée Zellweger in. She was great as James' wife Mae and really sold the deep relationship between them and the devotion to her children. Excellent directing by Ron Howard some really good in ring camera work and use of flashbacks. He gave such a vivid portrayal of the great depression and how hard it was for people. I have to give this 5 since its now one of my all time favorite true stories and sports films. A must see.

Brilliant....Loved it.....Really touching.....The acting was great.....I specially liked Paul Giamatti's character with his small humours and the loyalty that he shows.....All in all a must see....
