It's got Oliver Reed and pretty Technicolor, and maybe a couple good scenes, but little else. There has to be a good werewolf movie out there somewhere.

Decent werewolf film from Hammer, there only take on the horror staple, starring Oliver Reed as the titular monster. It isn't great, but it has t's moments. It does sport a good performance from Reed, as well as strong wolf make-up, and that great classic Hammer visual look. The story isn't spectacular, but it is a mostly solid Werewolf effort.

An incredible film in which lycanthropy is equated with original sin. The werewolf make-up is superb and Oliver Reed's performance is as well. Terence Fisher's direction is - as usual - flawless. I have heard some people complain that this movie is slow paced, and I suppose it is. But it's still arguably the greatest werewolf film ever made.

Rather slow moving, odd Hammer werewolf movie. Curse of the Werewolf is Hammer's only werewolf movie, and isn't very traditional. The werewolf is almost a combination of myth and the truth behind the myth ("werewolves" often could have been people suffering from some sort of mental illness). Reed's werewolf was born from a mute and a madman, became a werewolf after the taste of fresh blood, and could remain human through love. The makeup is good, and the film has a very bright, clean look to it.

Hammer Films, last bastion of romantic sentiment. Surprisingly lush cinematography, strong folklore, social castes, heaving bosoms, and Oliver Reed playing young man cursed to turn into a werewolf. The cure for the curse? A woman's true love. Leonard Cohen says there ain't no cure for love, but can love cure? This terrified me when I was a kid, now I find it touching and a bit more insightful than maybe it deserves. But great.
