While doing a series of reports on alternative energy sources, opportunistic reporter Kimberly Wells witnesses an accident at a nuclear power plant. Wells is determined to publicize the incident, but soon finds herself entangled in a sinister conspiracy to keep the full impact of the incident a secret.

Another classic performance by Jack Lemmon.Michael Douglas and Jane Fonda are superb also.

A thrilling classic which sadly does not get enough recognition as one of the best movies of the 1970s. Lemmon's performance drives this story of the immense danger surrounding a nuclear power plant after a faulty indicator comes within seconds of causing a meltdown. Michael Douglas and Jane Fonda provide superb foils to Lemmon's performance (who deserved an Academy Award, but faced perhaps one of the roughest nominee-crowds of all time, one that included Al Pacino (...And Justice For All), Peter Sellers (Being There), and Roy Scheider (All That Jazz), and saw all four beaten out by Dustin Hoffman (Kramer Vs. Kramer). A superb classic.

Intense, ambitious and superbly acted suspense. With a brilliant characterization, Fonda raises "The China Syndrome" to one of the (if not the) best newspaper movie ever made.
