The Black Cauldron (1985)

Taran is an assistant pigkeeper with boyish dreams of becoming a great warrior. However, he has to put the daydreaming aside when his charge, an oracular pig named Hen Wen, is kidnapped by an evil lord known as the Horned King. The villain hopes Hen will show him the way to The Black Cauldron, which has the power to create a giant army of unstoppable soldiers.

Loved these books, but this movie strays pretty far, and not in a good way.

An excellent villain voiced by an excellent actor is not enough to redeem this train-wreck of an animated feature. It is too frightening and violent for children yet too childish for adults as the characters are all very annoying and unlikable; particularly Gurgi. While it does get recognition for being one of the first animated feature's to employ the use of CGI it ultimately fails.

Disney's dark fantasy epic is perhaps the greatest animated feature of all time. Scary, wholesome, and adventurous, The Black Cauldron is a terrific tale of good vs. evil, where friendship and pure heart triumphs over that which is wrong. Throw in a bit of humor and a sense of wonder and you've got one cool movie. Now all we need is the uncut version of the film, with the deleted scenes that earned a PG-13/R rating (the man being dissolved by mist, more terror brought by the army of the dead, and more blood) but also any other scenes that were deleted. Please, Disney, GIVE US THE UNCUT VERSION!
