Wada, a salary man, is enlisted to venture off to China to investigate a potential Jade mine. After his arrival, Wada encounters a violent, yet sentimental, yakuza, who takes the liberty of joining his adventure through China. Takashi Miike IS a great film maker! The bird people in china proves that miike can make a dam great film with out pushing extreme tabbooos!!! It is a pitty that Miike has been over shadowed by his extreme films and it feels sometimes people do not take him seriously as a director becasue of this. The bird people in china is well written, well directed and proves that miike is a great 'serious' film maker many miike fans that are fans of his later and extreme work may find this film slow and weak.... but if you can open your mind and Take miike serious, you will see the greatness of this film

The concept is an emotional, and kinda insane one, but I got through it. The shots of the chinese country side are quite spectacuar and really invigorate the film and thats about it. A see for those who like asian films.

A very gentle adult fairytale... not what you would expect from this director. It has its trademark flurries of violence but all are in context with the story & its characters. This is a genuinely top draw product & I don't understand why it is so hard to come by in the UK.

I had no idea what to expect from this movie, but I found myself totally absorbed by it. It's absolutely lovely.

This movie breaks the rules, as Miike usually does. It's beautiful and well constructed with a thick plot.
