The Beguiled (1971)

Offbeat Civil War drama in which a wounded Yankee soldier, after finding refuge in an isolated girls' school in the South towards the end of the war, becomes the object of the young women's sexual fantasies. The soldier manipulates the situation for his own gratification, but when he refuses to completely comply with the girls' wishes, they make it very difficult for him to leave.

First time Don Siegel had directed Clint Eastwood,only seen once before,this is a must see for Eastwood fans and one of his greatest roles.

An unusually dark film for Eastwood. This intense, sexual gothic story is magnificent. Eastwood, playing against type as a manipulative, lying S.O.B. Siegel said this was the favorite of his films and I think he was correct. He could create amazing action sequences, but his cool, calculated direction is too much to handle at times.

Clint Eastwood's performance is quite appreciable. The movie is absolutely honest and brutal which the 2017 remake lack.

A decent attempt at reversing Clint's macho image that never really follows through. Still deeply atmospheric, though.
